To quote from Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma,"  "Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day..."

MWI had a beautiful day on June 26, 2013. We installed our second president, Barbara Goldstein, for her second year, and we presented philanthropic grants of $45,000. It was not only a beautiful day, but a beautiful year, with the culmination being our donations to the following organizations:

  • Hofstra North Shore-LIJ Medical School. As in prior years, our grant provides scholarships for summer internships. Many of the medical students need financial assistance during the summer in order to work in either an inner-city neighborhood or a foreign country that can give little or no remuneration. The medical school is the one constant in our philanthropy mission.
  • Angela's House. Angela's House is an organization that cares for children who are medically fragile and/or chronically ill. The organization assists in home care, family support services, and 24/7 care in one of its three special residences.
  • Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE.) This organization benefits and supports about 3,500 individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Their programs include therapeutic, education, and music, with services for help in work and employment. We had the privilege of being entertained by eight members of the FREE Jazz Ensemble, who were awesome.
